Friday, President Asif Ali Zardari practiced the oath in Sarfraz Dogar as acting chief of the High Court of Islamabad (IHC) during a ceremony held here in Awan-E- Sadr.
The event started with the national anthem game followed by the recitation of the Holy Quran.
According to an official notification, the president of Pakistan appointed judge Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar as acting chief of the High Court of Islamabad with effect of the day he takes the oath of his post until the appointment of the judge in Regular chief.
On Wednesday, a notification issued by the Ministry of Law announced that President Asif Ali Zardari had appointed judge Sarfraz Dogar as acting chief of the IHC.
The appointment, made under article 196 of the Constitution, entered into force on the date on which the judgar judge was sworn in and was to remain in place until a permanent judge in chief was appointed.
This appointment followed the elevation of judge Aamer Farooq at the Supreme Court (SC) at the start of the week.
Judge Dogar, who had already been transferred from the High Court of Lahore (LHC), was to serve until a permanent chief judge was appointed.
The president also approved the elevation of seven judges at the Supreme Court, in particular judge Aamer Farooq, judge Muhammad Hashim Khan Kakar, judge Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui, judge Salahuddin Panhwar, judge Ishtiaq Ibrahim, judge Shakeel Ahmad and Judge Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb.
The decision was opposed by the Mohsin Akhtar Kayani judges, Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, Babar Sattar, Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan and Saman Rafat.
The judges of the IHC had decided to challenge the rejection of their representation.
