Friday, the chief judge of Pakistan Yahya Afridi took an oath to six newly appointed judges of the Supreme Court during an official ceremony.

The oath ceremony saw the oath of judge Aamir Farooq, judge Shafi Siddiqui, judge Hashim Kakar, judge Ishtiaq Ibrahim, judge Salahuddin, judge Shakeel Ahmed and judge Ad Hoc Gul Hassan.

The event was followed by judges of the Supreme Court, the Attorney General, the main lawyers, journalists, legal staff, as well as officials of the association of the Supreme Court Bar and Pakistan Bar Council.

In addition, President Asif Ali Zardari will prove the oath to the acting chief judge of the IHC, Sarfaraz Dogar.

These judges were appointed Monday at a meeting of the Pakistan Judicial Commission (JCP) which was boycotted by two superior judges of the SC as well as two members of the opposition party.

The JCP of 13 members, led by chief judge Yahya Afridi, met to examine the appointments for the appointments of the Supreme Court. According to a press release on the Supreme Court website, the appointments were approved by a majority vote.

The meeting took place despite the requests of certain judges and an article of the legal fraternity to delay the procedure until the appels against the 26th constitutional amendment are decided and that the question of the new seniority list of the IHC is resolved.

Last week, four judges of the Supreme Court, the judge of Higher then Manansoor Ali Shah and Munib Akhtar, Athar Minallah and Ayesha Malik sent a letter to the Chief Judge Afridi, asking him to delay the appointment of new judges until ‘The decision on calls concerning the 26th amendment.

Later, the senator of Pakistan Tehreek-e-insaf (PTI) Ali Zafar, who is a member of the JCP, also asked the Afridian chief judge to delay the appointment of new judges before the Supreme Court until the question of the seniority of the judges of the CIHC is decided.

At the start of the JCP meeting on Monday, according to the sources, judge Shah, while referring to the judges’ letter, demanded the postponement of the meeting. His statement was supported by judge Akhtar, as well as Senator Ali Zafar and the lawyer for the National Assembly Gohar Ali Khan.

In the midst of the meeting, lawyers and litigants encountered difficulties because part of the legal fraternity had called the protest against the meeting and the new appointments at the Supreme Court. Due to the demonstration, several roads have been closed in the region.
