Judi Dench confronts a fading vision and a memory as she turns 91

Dame Judi Dench has spoken candidly about the challenges of aging and deteriorating eyesight.

THE Skyfall former shared emotional details during her wide-ranging interview with the Radio schedules before his 91st birthday on Tuesday.

The Oscar winner revealed that her battle with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) now leaves her unable to watch TV or read scripts without help.

She relies on assistants and colleagues to read the lines aloud.

Dench memorizes the lines using his photographic memory.

Her eyes are in the advanced “wet” stage of AMD, making them impossible to treat.

“He’s a grinder,” Dench said.

“I miss seeing Clive Myrie in Mastermind, but I hear the questions,” Dench replied when asked what she missed.

The 90-year-old is also unable to continue other previous activities like embroidery, driving or even going out alone.

Despite this, she continues to work because she is determined not to let her condition silence her career.

Another obstacle in his life is short-term memory loss.

She joked that although she can recite Shakespeare’s soliloquies, she often forgets what she’s supposed to do tomorrow.

Dench admitted to fearing “losing the ground”.
