Islamabad:
On Sunday, the chief of Jamiat Ulema-E-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Maulana Fazlur Rehman, devoted himself strongly to the 2025 law recently promulgated by the territory of the capital of the Islamabad capital, announcing a national protest campaign to “raise awareness”.
Speaking at a press conference in Peshawar, the Supremo Jui-F categorically rejected legislation, claiming that it has undermined Islamic values and societal standards by criminalizing the marriage of minors while allowing extramarital relations.
“Pakistan is a strange country … At the time of General Musharraf, a constitutional amendment was adopted in the name of the rights of women who decriminalize sex outside marriage,” he said. “It removed him from the kingdom of sin.”
“Now they are trying to ban the marriage of people under the age of 18. The CII has already rejected this and all the Ulemas and their parties have agreed that it contradicts the Koran and the Sunnah,” he added, accusing the government of trampling for constitutional guarantees.
Fazl has announced that his party would launch a series of protest activities in response to the law, including rallies and a large public conference scheduled for June 29 in the Hazara division, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
“We will organize gatherings, but they will not focus on a single subject, such as the Al-Aqsa mosque,” he said. “Now we are going to welcome gatherings to raise awareness of national sovereignty and Islamic governance.”
“God wants, we will present our position in the world freely. Islam is a faith that moves with the world and can be beneficial.”
The law, which was signed by the president on May 27 following his visit to the two chambers of the Parliament, aims to ban the marriage of children in Islamabad by prohibiting marriages involving individuals under the age of 18.
