BHAKKAR:
JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman warned that any attempt by the government to recognize Israel would face strong resistance from his party.
“Palestine is the land of the prophets, and settling Jews there is a denial of the command of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). If Pakistan ever tried to recognize Israel, the reaction of the JUI-F would be extremely severe,” Fazl said while speaking at a seminar in Bhakkar.
US President Donald Trump said on October 17 that he expected an upcoming extension of the Abraham Accords, a week after announcing a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
“I hope to see Saudi Arabia come in, and I hope to see others come in. I think when Saudi Arabia comes in, everyone will come in,” Trump said in an interview broadcast on Fox Business Network.
The Abraham Accords are a set of agreements that established diplomatic relations between Israel and several Arab states, starting with the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain in 2020.
Fazl said religious seminaries are the guardians of the country’s ideological borders and will continue to defend them.
“These are the institutions from which movements are born, ideologies are born and the Ummah receives guidance. If the state itself begins to move the nation away from religion, we will not remain silent,” he asserted.
The Maulana reiterated that the JUI-F has always been a supporter of democracy and has never taken the law into its own hands. “Governments must also act with patience and not deprive anyone of their democratic rights,” he said.
Expressing regret over the government’s attitude towards Madaris, he wondered why there was a delay in opening Madaris’ bank accounts if the law had already been passed. He blamed bureaucracy as the real cause of the confrontation in the country.
Fazl said his party wanted to protect the future of Pakistani children. “We are not opposed to English or modern education, but we will never allow Islam to be excluded from the school curriculum.”
