- Developers are still struggling to get their hands on the Nintendo Switch 2 development kits
- Digital Foundry reports that many studios cannot have access to kits are invited to ship their games on Switch and “count on compatibility behind”
- It is said that the great AAA developers are also excluded
Even after the launch of the Sintendo Switch 2, Nintendo would have always been refrained to provide studios with development kits.
During the last episode of the DF Foundry DFF Direct Weekly of the Podcast (via VGC), the hosts John Linneman and Oliver Mackenzie said that many developers had told them that they still could not have access to the development kits of Switch 2 and that they were told in Nintendo to focus on the creation of original switching games.
“There has been a lot of discussions on this subject lately, that Nintendo seems to be almost discouraging the development of Switch 2 to a certain extent,” said Linneman.
“I spoke with many developers where they have been said that their game, they should simply ship it on Switch 1 and count on compatibility behind.
“There are a lot of developers who are unable to obtain Switch 2 development kits. We have talked about many developers to Gamescom this year, and many of them have said the same things. They want to ship on Switch 2.. They would like to do Switch 2 versions. They cannot get the equipment. It is really difficult now.”

Mackenzie added that there was a question of developing AAA developers also excluded from kits, while the studio of Chillin ‘by fireA game that uses Switch 2 camera is.
“I think they should [get more devkits out there]But I don’t really know what Nintendo’s state of mind was with these sets of decisions, “said Mackenzie.” So I don’t really understand the strategy because, as you said, even now the developers find it difficult to obtain systems.
“And I know that a few months ago, when we hear things through the vineyard and let people talk to people, there were strange exclusions with great developers who had trouble obtaining kits for games. And there was also a kind of strange inclusions. Some Indies have been included, which is pleasant to see.
“But there is this campfire game, you know, the camera’s campfire, and they get kits. And some great developers, on the other hand, have developed AAA stuff, are not necessarily in the pipeline there for the kits.”
This has been a continuous problem since the launch of Switch 2, with developers of a wide range of studios saying that they were “desperate” to get their hands on development kits (via the game of the game).
Elsewhere, the next Nintendo Direct showcase would be broadcast next month, just in time for Super Mario Bros.“40th anniversary.
