Justice (retd) Yar Muhammad Khan will take oath as the caretaker chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan on Tuesday (today), after the end of the tenure of chief minister Gulbar Khan and the dissolution of the region’s assembly.
The Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Assembly and government were dissolved at midnight on Monday after completing their constitutional term. With the dissolution of the Assembly, the government of the region was also dissolved, according to an official statement.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his capacity as Chairman of the Gilgit-Baltistan Council, has approved the appointment of Justice (retd) Yar Muhammad Khan as Acting Chief Minister under Section 48-A (2) of the Gilgit-Baltistan Government Ordinance, 2018.
A notification issued in Gilgit said that the caretaker chief minister would take oath in the morning. Justice (retired) Khan, who belongs to Astore, retired as a judge of the Chief Court of Great Britain. He holds a degree in Sharia and Law from the International Islamic University, Islamabad, which he obtained in 2008.
