Justin Drake d’Ethereum reveals the “Lean” roadmap to push quantum threats

The researcher of the Ethereum Justin Drake Foundation introduced a new long -term development framework of the network called Lean Ethereum, aimed at simplifying the design of the protocol while preparing it for the security risks posed by future quantum computers.

The roadmap, published Thursday on the blog of the Ethereum Foundation, highlights a renewed emphasis on the simplicity, safety and efficiency at the basic layer of the network.

Lean Ethereum pleads for a rationalized approach to the way Ethereum validates transactions, stores data and secures, reducing complexity in favor of minimalism.

The objective, according to Drake, is to make the main protocol of Ethereum easier to maintain and, ultimately more robust over time.

Security is a major engine behind the proposal. Drake underlines the need to defend oneself proactively against quantum computer threats, which could possibly break the widely used cryptographic tools today. Lean Ethereum describes a transition to post-qualitum signature schemes, throwing the bases of Ethereum to stay safely in the face of these emerging technologies.

“We hold at the dawn of a new era. Millions of TPS. Quantum adversaries. How does Ethereum marry extreme performance with safety and decentralization without compromise? ” Drake wrote.
