SINDH/KARACHI:

A water tanker claimed another life in the city on Friday when a 12-year-old boy was knocked down in Korangi’s 100 Quarters area, police said.

The incident took place near Bangali Para main market when the child, identified as Farhan, son of Noor Muhammad, fell under the rear wheels of a fuel truck. He was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center by an Edhi ambulance but did not survive.

Residents said Farhan, a madrassa student and the youngest of eight siblings, had rented a bike and was returning it after playing in a nearby field when he was hit. They added that a speeding motorcycle brushed against the boy, causing him to fall, and the passing fuel truck then ran over him. The tanker truck was apparently moving at a slow speed.

Residents have also complained that road encroachments have narrowed the street, increasing the likelihood of such incidents.

SHO Nafeesur Rehman of Zaman town said some residents tried to set fire to the tanker after the accident, but police intervened and arrested the driver, identified as Noor Hussain Shah. The vehicle was also impounded.

The police check whether the driver had a valid license and whether the tanker had a tracker or the required documents. The investigation is ongoing.
