The mayor of Karachi, Murtaza Wahab, was involved in a lifting accident during his visit to the Abbasi Shaheed hospital during his official tour, Express News reported.
The incident occurred when the mayor, as well as the deputy mayor and other officials, went up on the elevator during their inspection in the hospital.
Due to overcrowding, the elevator worked badly and made a sudden descent. Fortunately, all the passengers, including the mayor, were unscathed from the incident.
The hospital staff responded quickly, opening the doors of the exterior from the outside and safely evacuating everyone.
Earlier, a woman, Samia Arshad, died after falling an elevator tree in a Karimabad hospital, in the Federal B region, a few hours after giving birth to a little girl.
She had been transferred to a stretcher by the hospital staff when the elevator moved unexpectedly, dropping it at 20 feet. She had undergone deadly in the fall injuries.
The hospital staff had not properly obtained the victim and the elevator would have been in poor condition.
The family of the woman had decided not to continue a legal action at the time, but had expressed their concerns concerning the use by the hospital of defective elevators.
The Sindh Healthcare Commission was investigating the incident, but no official complaints had yet been filed. The hospital had confirmed the report of the event police and said that the elevator was regularly maintained.
