Karachi police have submitted a first information report (FIR) against one of their officers, the head of the investigation (SIO) Abrar Shah, after having pretended an obscene comment on the President Asif Ali Zardari on social networks.
The incident occurred on April 2, 2025, when Shah shared derogatory remarks concerning the sick president, who led to a complaint filed by the Yaqoob service agent of the Sukkun police station.
The FIR was registered under the 2016 law on the prevention of electronic crimes (PECA), which deals with cybercrimes.
The complainant provided the police with the screenshots of the offensive post.
Consequently, SIO Abrar Shah was arrested by Sukkun police, and the case was transferred to the investigation officer (IO) for other measures.
Previously, the authorities recorded three additional cases under the Electronic Crimes Prevention Act (PECA) 2025 for having allegedly spread propaganda against the chief minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz and public institutions on social networks.
The cases were deposited in the city of Shahdara, Shahdara and the Kot Lakhpat police stations, involving serious accusations linked to digital offenses under the PECA 2025.
The first information reports (FIRS) allege that artificial intelligence (IA) has been used to create manipulated videos targeting Punjab CM.
The police say that these videos were part of a coordinated effort of a political group to promote an anti-state story and encourage troubles on online platforms.
