Karachi struck by heavy rains, urban floods and current failures

The torrential monsoon rains hit Karachi on Tuesday, triggering urban floods in several districts, disturbing traffic and causing generalized power outages.

The dark clouds covered the city in the afternoon, followed by strong showers with strong winds in areas such as the city of Surjani, the Federal region B, Gulshan-E-Iqbal, Qayyumabad, Gulistan-E-Jauhar, Malir, Shahrah-E-Faisal, Nazimabad and New Karachi.

Rainwater has accumulated on the main roads and interior streets, Gulshan-E-Hade has experienced serious floods while water entered the houses, forcing residents to move valuables in safer places.

Key intersections such as Hasan Square, Nipa Chowrangi, Chowrangi prison, Liaquatabad, Korangi, Karsaz and the highway also experienced a water commitment, bringing traffic to a dead point.

Traffic update

The flow of traffic remained slow on several major roads across Karachi on Tuesday following strong precipitation, police announced.

According to traffic police, congestion has been reported in the South District in Capri Chowk to Nunish Chowrangi, Shahrah-E-Liaquat, Baba-E-Abur Chowk, Ma Jinnah Road, Jamshed Road and Jehangir Road.

In the western district, slow traffic was observed in Gulbai Chowk, Lakri Godee, Dabba Mor and PTC Gate. Likewise, in the Malir district, the movement was affected along the national road and the Jinnah avenue road.

Police officials have said that the staff had been deployed to regulate the flow and urged citizens to be cautious when traveling in the areas affected by the rain.

Disturbed food

The Karachi electrical system collapsed again after strong precipitation, the stability affirmations of K-Electric proving to be hollow while more than 609 eaters stumbled.

The public service distribution system has remained unstable because the breakdowns have made life difficult to citizens in several areas. Current failures have been reported in the FB region, Liaquatabad, Shah Faisal, Gulbahar, Golimar, Khwaja Ajmer Nagri, Nusrat Bhutto Colony, Pechs, North Karachi, Yousuf Goth, New Karachi, Gullistan-E-Jauhar, Bin Qasim, Surjani Town, North Nazabad, Manghopir, Baldia, Metroville site, Landhi, Khokhrapar, Pak Colony, Moosa Colony, Gharibabad, GaDap, Kathore Goths, Yousuf Goth, Akhtar Colony, Manzoor Colony, Railway Colony.

K electrical sources K have declared that electricity had been deliberately reduced in the low areas and Kunda (illegal connection) by precautionary measure.

CM Sindh

Sindh -chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah ordered all the departments concerned to remain on alert during the current monsoon rains.

The chief minister asked the rescue services and the administration to remain entirely mobilized for the strong precipitation.

He ordered strict monitoring of drains and the drainage system to prevent urban floods and ordered the mayor of Karachi to make sure that machines and staff remain active for the immediate elimination of rainwater.

The chief minister advised citizens to avoid unnecessary trips during strong showers. He also ordered district administrations, police and municipal organizations to maintain coordination.

Traffic police have been ordered to remain vigilant in low and occupied places and provide complete advice to the public during precipitation.

He also urged people to stay away from electrical posts and weak infrastructure, and asked that surveillance systems be strengthened to keep citizens informed of weather conditions.
