Karachi: After Sunday’s heavy showers who had managers on an alert for urban floods, the dark clouds fell on Karachi on Monday morning, offering light showers across the coastal city, meteorological analysts said.
Drizzle has been reported in several districts, including Defense Housing Authority (DHA), Korangi Road, Shahrah-E-Faisal, Burns Road, Ma Jinnah Road, Qayyumabad, Mehmoodabad, Manzoor Colony and Baloch Colony.
University Road, Jamshed Road, Jehangir Road, Yasenabad and Gulshan-E-Iqbal have also seen light rain.
According to meteorological experts, the burnt could last between 30 and 60 minutes. They added that if the system moves to the west, Karachi can receive heavier precipitation later during the day.
Elsewhere in the Sindh, intermittent showers continued through Tharparkar, while Larkana and his adjacent areas were stuffed by strong showers.
A heavy rain also beat Khairpur and its periphery with thunder and lightning, while the showers on Kot Diji and the hills of Aror flooded local storm drains and draws. Kashmore, meanwhile, saw slight showers that have made time pleasant.
Strong precipitation struck several parts of Karachi on Sunday, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warning that the showers could trigger urban floods in the low areas of the city.
Light to light rains are reported in Gulshan-E-Hadeed, Malir Halt, Rafa-Eam, Bahria Town and surroundings near the M9 motorway.
According to the Met Office, rain -carrying clouds are currently present in the eastern parts of the megapular. “These clouds can spread more in the city,” he added.
“Unusual showers” are expected in the Sindh in the next 48 hours, warned the Met Office.
He added that the “depression” in the southwest of Rajasthan and the Gujarat of India has strengthened in a “deep depression”.
The “deep depression” is likely to enter the south-east of Sindh in the coming 24 hours, said the Met Office.
Under the influence of the meteorological system, heavy rains were expected in Tharparkar, Umarkot and in other cities of the Sindh until September 10.
Karachi should also receive heavy intermittent rain with thunderstorms and gusts during the period, he added.
