- New Kef Moo Bluetooth speaker announced for $ 249 (around £ 180 / $ 375 in)
- Bluetooth 5.4 with Auracast and Aptx adaptive
- 40W amplification, battery life 24 hours a day
Kef has unveiled a new generation of its portable Bluetooth speaker, Muo, with Bluetooth 5.4, adaptive APTX and a 24-hour battery.
The MUO retains its striking style, created by the famous industrial designer Ross Lovegrove – the same person who designed iconic Kef muo speakers – in 2016. This version is supposed to use the recycled plastic to reduce its environmental footprint.
The heart of the muo is its specially developed track pilot (which means that it looks more like an oval shape than a circle) which promises a powerful low -end without excessive distortion or energy consumption.
The new MUO also incorporates Kef’s P-Flex technology, formerly observed in its KC62 and KC92 subwoofers, which resists the driver’s deformation caused by high internal atmospheric pressure. Kef says that the result is “clean” bass delivery. And there is a new 19 mm dome tweet to also improve the tops.
Large sound of a small speaker
There are two class D amps inside: a 10W for high frequencies and a 30W for stockings. The frequency response is an impressive 43 Hz at 20 kHz.
The equipment is improved with Kef’s Music Integrity engine, a collection of proprietary algorithms designed to optimize sound quality and improve details, and there is the option of real stereo appearance or several speakers via Auracast. You can also connect a laptop via USB-C, and the MUO works with Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair. MOO contains an integrated microphone for vocal calls.
The new MUO is classified IP67 for the protection of water and dust, with an operating temperature range of -20ºC at + 45 ° C. The battery offers up to 24 hours of reading and up to three hours to listen from a quick load of 15 minutes.
The MOO weighs 740 g (1.6 lb) and there are seven color options with matching transport straps: twilight in silver, amber mist, orange moon, blue, foam green, cocoa brown and midnight black.
The triangular shape of the MUO and its arrangement of speakers are very similar to that of the 2nd generation of Sonos, but the KEF speaker has a recommended retail price of $ 249.99. It is about £ 185 /378 in front of the tax, and is much higher than the $ 179 of the Sonos Roam 2 – we will see if the additional money and the audio expertise of Kef have argued the additional price when we examine it.
