The Indiana fever player Kelsey Mitchell, spoke of the perceived treatment of Chicago Angel Reese’s sky star by fans.
While addressing journalists from the WNBA Star Match, a journalist asked Mitchell his reflections on “negativity” directed towards Reese, “as a black woman”.
“I think it is important to make sure that we keep it less on color and more on humans,” replied Mitchell. “I think that if you just have a common decency and decency on what we do as women on the ground, you know that Angel Reese is a bad woman on the ground and out of the ground. And we, as women, must represent this.”

When asked what Mitchell would say to fans who lead negativity to Reese, Mitchell said: “May God bless you.”
“I hope your mind is on a step in a step where you don’t have to make these comments because it’s really shy. UM we as women. We have come here and we try to compete and connect and use the hoop to, you know, we express,” said Mitchell.
“As if that would not always go in our sense and people who bet on us and people the unpleasant comments that we get on the people we make and that we do not play, it is as if it was disrespectful towards what we are trying to do, as we give the benefit of doubt and I hope that people consider us humans.”
Reese is one of the most popular and polarizing players in the League, and has built a large part of its current rivalry with the Caitlin Clark phenomenon dating from their university days. The recruit season of Clark and Reese in 2024 saw the League beat several records of audience and attendance, in particular because of the matches featuring Clark and the fever of the Indiana.
Reese was criticized for a gesture at the end of the NCAA 2023 women’s basketball championship match where she showed her annular to taunt Clark after the Reese team won. The moment stimulated Reese’s public profile and prompted polarizing attention, many Clark fans launching criticism from Reese online.
However, a case of allegedly abused ill -treatment has been studied and not supported.
The WNBA investigation finds no proof of hateful comments towards Angel Reese
After a reported incident of harassment of fans against Reese in the fever and the first game of the Sky season on May 17, the WNBA launched an investigation into the issue. But the league announced 10 days later that the allegations of “hateful comments” were “not supported”.
“We appreciate the rapid and in -depth process undertaken by the WNBA to investigate these allegations, which have not been supported,” fever said in a statement.
“At Gainbridge Fieldhouse, we are committed to providing the best possible basketball experience to players and fans where hatred speech has absolutely no room. Indiana is home to the biggest fans in the world, and we are looking forward to an exciting season of fever basketball.”
Addition of the WNBA, “on the basis of the information collected to date, including concerned fans, the team and the staff of the arena, as well as the game and video journal of the game, we have not been supported [the report]. The WNBA is committed to promoting a safe and inclusive environment for everyone and will continue to be vigilant in the application of our code for fans. “”
American senator Jim Banks, R-Ind, called The Wnba And the fever of apologizing to the fans of fever after this investigation found no evidence.
“(Reese) accused the basis of Indiana Fever fans of being racist. They investigated it. They said that these accusations were false. The least she could do is apologize to our big state and the fans who present themselves to these games and say:” I am sorry, I was wrong. “Obviously, she will not do this,” said Banks on Tuesday during an appearance on Outkick’s “Don’t @ with Dan Dakich.”
“These are horrible accusations. They were not true. Fans did not shout racial insults to Angel Reese or opposite players. I mean, where is Caitlin Clark? Where is Indiana fever? Where does the WNBA say that this investigation? There should not have been an investigation. The allegations were false. Where are the apologies? It’s disappointing. “”

It is not clear if Reese informed the WNBA to provoke the investigation. Sky’s head coach Tyler Marsh discovered relationships “when everyone did”. However, Reese said in the past that fans of fever and iowa had been racist towards her.
“It is so degrading for our state and the basis of fans to go through something like that. The least they can do is apologize to fans,” added Banks. “It’s the kind of waste that is thrown all the time.”
