Kevin Hart says he’s been bitten by the golf bug. The award-winning actor and comedian makes his debut Wednesday at the historic Augusta National Golf Club for the annual Par 3 competition.

Held each year on the eve of the Masters, the competition attracts competitors’ families – and sometimes celebrities like Hart – for a rare chance to caddy or even try their luck on the prestigious course. This year, Hart caddied two-time US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau.

While the pairing of a native Texan and golf professional with a Hollywood star might have seemed unlikely, the duo seemed to quickly form a connection at Augusta, with DeChambeau offering Hart some on-course advice.

Asked by ESPN what his goal for the day was, Hart made it clear he wanted to “be the best cadet of all the cadets.”

“I’m not Kevin Hart, the global superstar of today. Please get that out of your mind. Not the movie star, the comedian that everyone in the world knows. Throw that in the bag. Today, I’m Bryson’s caddy.”

DeChambeau then revealed that he first met Hart as the comedian dove deeper into golf — a connection that ultimately led them to become teammates on one of the sport’s most iconic courses.

“A few months ago we filmed a video called ‘Caddie Talk,’ just Kevin and I, as he started playing golf. I said, ‘Let’s do something fun together,’ so I showed him around the course. He became a really good caddy – and now he’s got the job here at the Par 3 competition.”

But Hart ended up doing more than is typical for a caddy on Wednesday. When he got to hole No. 9, the comedian grabbed one of DeChambeau’s irons, approached the ball and bragged that he would only need one shot.

“I was built for this,” Hart said.

However, he ended up swinging and the ball fell into the water. The broadcaster gave Hart a slight reprieve, pointing out the actor’s lack of golf experience and the difficulty of making a good swing while wearing a caddy outfit. “It doesn’t matter, he just started golf seven months ago, golf is a tough game,” the announcer noted. “I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt, it’s a little difficult swinging in the caddy suit (and) without a glove.”
