King Charles III praises the role of journalism to be the strength of democracy.
His Majesty, who welcomed 400 guests from British journalism this week, admitted that they had an essential role to play in the economy.
He said at the Buckingham Palace: “This role for your whole industry is now more important than ever.”
The king, 76, added: “You will not always have things correctly. Free media is the one that will and make mistakes.
“But in its best, it is a cornerstone of our democracy.”
He told participants: “Your reports help to amplify and reaffirm the rights and responsibilities that we all share.
“He shines light in dark corners, exposing injustice.”
He added: “Above all, it helps to strengthen our communities, during the time of joy and at times of sorrow.
“It is in the interests of everyone that you should succeed. Because without a flourishing and financially robust regional media, we would be all the poorest,” noted His Majesty.
