Buckingham Palace announced on Tuesday that King Charles and Queen Camilla will travel to the United States for a state visit to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence.
US President Donald Trump gave an interview to the Telegraph amid the ongoing conflict, which has caused tensions across the world over the future. So this is also one of the reasons why the British urged the British government to cancel the visit completely.
Meanwhile, Trump, who was hosted by the royal family last September at Windsor Castle, told the publication that he had a good relationship with the king.
“I like him. I always liked him as a prince. He’s a good man, a great representative of your country,” Trump said of Charles. “I think he would have taken a very different position [on the war in Iran] but he doesn’t do that. I mean, he’s a great gentleman.
The bold claim came after British Prime Minister Keir Starmer angered Trump after strongly opposing the war.
Before things got out of hand for the royal family, a Buckingham Palace source told the Daily Beast Wednesday, that “the king is above politics”.
Traditionally also, the royal family has remained politically neutral, focusing instead on its duty to promote national unity and pride. Therefore, it also seemed like a wise decision to clarify this to the public before another furor casts its shadow over the monarch and his reign.
