- The first new Klipsch headphones in a decade
- ANC, bass-rich and audiophile models
- Price and specifications to be confirmed
American speaker brand Klipsch and Japanese hi-fi expert Onkyo share a parent company and, to mark their 80 years in audio, they have announced exciting new headphones and speakers, as well as some teasers for future hi-fi products.
There are a lot of interesting things coming from both brands, and I think the most interesting new products are the Klipsch Atlas series headphones: these are the first new headphones from Klipsch in a decade, and they look very impressive.
Klipsch Atlas Series Earbuds: What to Expect
The new Atlas Series headphones are a trio of premium over-ear headphones that Klipsch says are “the next step beyond its legacy Heritage series of headphones.” There will be three new models: the HP-1, HP-2 and HP-3.
The HP-3 will be the flagship product. They are semi-open headphones promising “a spacious, speaker-like presentation for audiophiles”, with a wide padded headband, Alcantara materials and perforated earcups for extended listening comfort.
The HP-2s are closed-back and emphasize bass response and low-frequency impact: they are aimed directly at the “bass enthusiast segment”. I think they mean me.
Finally, there are the Atlas HP-1 Wireless ANC Headphones, which have been designed to be ultra-lightweight and durable with “exceptional” battery life. Somewhat mysteriously, Klipsch says there is “planned compatibility of third-party features for spatial audio and hearing compensation.”
Klipsch will also launch a new generation of its Music City Series Bluetooth speakers, Auracast Bluetooth tabletop speakers and Flexus Element soundbar, designed for all-weather outdoor installations. It will also update its Reference Premiere speakers and move into more premium sectors with its Reference Signature series and a new “moonshot” called Project Apollo. The details are still sketchy, but Klipsch promises “elevated industrial design, improved materials, and new engineering based on Klipsch’s legacy architecture, designed specifically for audiophiles and listening enthusiasts.”
As for Onkyo, it is launching 80th anniversary limited edition versions of the Creator Series GX-30 and GX-10 powered speakers, which will launch this summer. It also introduces a new “room-filling” tabletop speaker, although the details of this are still under wraps. More details will be announced later this year.
