Korey Dropkin and Cory Thiesse officially return home as Olympic medalists.

In a difficult final against Suede The mixed doubles curling pair narrowly missed out on the top spot on the podium on Tuesday, losing 6-5 to siblings Isabella and Rasmus Wrana in a back-and-forth match that saw the lead change hands three times.

Despite their defeat, Dropkin and Thiesse made Olympic history with their Milan Cortina performance in securing the United States its first Olympic medal in mixed doubles curling after their victory over the host nation in the semifinals.

Thiesse, a native of Duluth, Minnesota, also became the first woman to win an Olympic curling medal for the United States.

She’ll have the chance to win another medal when she competes in women’s individual curling, but for Dropkin, Tuesday’s final marked her only event.

“It was a really good game,” Thiesse said on the NBC broadcast after the loss, via Athletics. “We just needed to be a little sharper today, but we’re not going to let this game take away from the week we had.”

“This week has been a dream,” added an emotional Dropkin, “Rasmus and Isabella are great curlers. They deserve this. They played amazing.”

Italy beat Great Britain 5-3 to complete the podium with a bronze medal.
