KP schools closed on August 19 to 25 due to sudden floods

Peshawar:

All government and private schools in the cold and mountainous regions of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) were closed for a week after cloudburs, heavy rains and sudden floods caused loss of life and important goods in the province, with 341 people killed so far, officials announced on Monday.

The Minister of Education, Faisal Khan Tarakai, confirmed the closure while sharing the official notification on X. “Teaching institutions in cold mountain areas will remain closed from August 19 to 25, so all educational activities will continue at home or online,” he added.

The authorities said that the summer holidays in these high altitude regions normally last a month, from July 1 to 31. Meanwhile, plains schools and the province’s low areas are currently watching the summer holidays until August 31.

The closure is part of the preventive measures to ensure the safety of students in the midst of violent time forecasts and sudden potential floods in the region.

The most affected areas include Dalori Bala and Sarkoi Payan in the Gadoon Amazai region, where dozens of houses have collapsed under the strength of flood waters. Many residents have been trapped under debris.
