The University of Karachi has launched decisive measures to protect its campus land and prevent future encroachment, reaffirming its commitment to protecting one of the city’s largest educational spaces. The move comes after the cancellation of a controversial no-objection certificate (NOC) for an illegally constructed petrol pump on the university premises. In a meeting with Vice Chancellor Prof. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, Deputy Commissioner East Nasrullah Abbasi and Sindh Anti-Corruption Establishment Director General Imtiaz Abro discussed follow-up measures to ensure long-term protection of the campus. The authorities stressed that proper demarcation and mutation of land should be completed quickly, thereby creating a clear legal framework to prevent unauthorized construction in the future. Professor Dr Iraqi commended the prompt action of government officials and reiterated the university’s determination to permanently secure all its lands and assets. He highlighted a specially convened single agenda union meeting, which laid the foundation for a clear and actionable strategy to combat encroachments. The cancellation of the NOC and the university’s proactive measures mark an important step towards safeguarding the University of Karachi campus, ensuring that it remains a safe space for students, faculty and future generations.
