Lahore ATC orders the release of Qureshi after the acquittal in two cases of May 9

Lahore: Following his acquittal one day earlier, an anti-terrorist court (ATC) in Lahore ordered the release of the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-E-insaf (PTI), Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Tuesday, in two cases of May 9.

ATC judge Manzar Ali Gill, followed his verdict, issued a mandamus to the superintendent of Kot Lakhpat prison to release Qureshi if he was not sought in any other case.

The court reserved its decision at the end of last week after hearing the arguments on both sides and announced it on Monday.

The court, however, condemned Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Senator Ejaz Chaudhry, Mian Mehmood Ur Rasheed, former governor of Punjab, Omar Sarfraz Cheema, and several others at 10 years in prison after having found them involved in the riots of May 9 – triggered after the arrest of the founder of the Imran Khan in a case vandalized by Vandalized by the crowd.

Thousands of supporters of the PTI stormed public goods and military facilities, including the body of the body commander in Lahore during the demonstration in May 2023 against the arrest of the former Imran president in a corruption case.

During the troubles, the supporters of Imran – the only Prime Minister of History in Pakistan to be ousted by a vote without confidence – targeted by civil and military installations, including the general seat (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

Several leaders and workers of the PTI were released on bail after their arrests, while many remain behind bars. The fallen Prime Minister, incarcerated since August 2023, faces a multitude of accusations ranging from corruption to terrorism after his withdrawal of his functions.

A day earlier, Dr. Yasmin, Sarfraz Cheema, Ejaz Chaudhry, Rasheed, Ayesha Ali Bhutta, Muhammad Fahim, Niaz Ahmed, Ali Hasan, Zain Ali, Asad Ali, Bilal Wajahat, Bilal Bashir, Muhammad Qasim and Zain Ul Hassan were sent at 10 years.

In the jinnah house tirching case, the court sentenced Rashid, Cheema, Chaudhry, Rasheed, Ayesha Ali Bhutta, Muhammad Fahim, Niaz Ahmed, Ali Hasan, Zain Ali, Asad Ali, Bilal Wajahat, Bilal Bashir, Muhammad Qasim and Zain Ul Hassan for 10 years.

Hafiz Muhammad Arshad also received the same sentence. Aliya Hamza and Sanam Javed received five years each.

In the same case, Qureshi, Abrar, Amjad, Faisal, Jamil, Saadia and Tasneem have been acquitted.

Meanwhile, in addition to condemning Dr. Yasmin, Rasheed, Chaudhry and Cheema at 10 years old, the Court also ordered the seizure of the properties of politicians in connection with their involvement in the Shadman police station.

PTI leaders have also obtained a fine of 600,000 rupees and will face a new incarceration in the event of non-payment.
