Lahore police officials were involved in the Honey Trap extortion program

A gang of honey traps operating in Lahore was broken, with seven arrested people, including three women and two police officers, according to officials like Express News, reported on Saturday.

According to police, the gang used social media to befriend men before attracting them to apartments under false pretexts.

Once there, the victims were allegedly attacked and filmed in compromise situations, the gang requiring large sums of money in exchange for not having fled the images.

The suspects arrested were identified as Asim, Waqas, Ahmed, Abrar, Noreen, Kiran and Fariha.

The officials said that the operation had been traced using social media follow -up, the criminalic of mobile phones and other modern survey techniques.

The authorities have recovered seven mobile phones, handcuffs, a pistol and 55,000 rupees in cash from suspects. Investigators revealed that the gang had already targeted more than 50 people.

A case was recorded against the accused following a complaint by a local citizen, Kamran.

The FIR also alleges that a polio worker was involved in the operation and had joined Asim, the alleged gang leader.

The revelations aroused concerns about the participation of the police in organized crime.

Police said new arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
