Peshawar: A terrorist attack on the Gambila police station in Lakki Marwat was thwarted after the police monitored suspicious activity near the premises and opened fire, taking preventive measures, the police announced on Thursday.

The shots forced the attackers to flee, and no victim was reported among the police, according to the press release.

The Inspector General of the Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Zulfiqar Hameed, congratulated the Gambila officers for their exceptional vigilance, their professional preparation and their rapid and courageous response to the attempt to attack.

The police launched an investigation and heads of the nearby areas to retrace the attackers and discover all the possible hiding places linked to the assault by foil.

The attack comes a few hours after the authorities recovered the ball bodies from nine bus passengers kidnapped by insurgents in a series of bus attacks in the mountainous province southwest of Balutchistan, officials announced on Friday.

The Liberation Front of Baloch Separatist (BLF) claimed the killings of the nine workers, saying that they were involved in espionage for the Pakistani intelligence agencies.

Officials said the bullet-injured bodies had been found in the mountains overnight, while a spokesman for the provincial government Shahid Rind said passengers had been seized with two buses on Thursday evening.

The security forces thwarted three insurgent attacks on Thursday before the kidnappings, said Rind, accusing the neighbor and the India rival of the militants.

The attack follows an increasing trend in cross -border terrorism in Balutchistan, in particular after the recent military victory in Pakistan against India.

Earlier Friday, the main army leaders had promised a decisive and holistic action at all levels against Indian back proxies operating in Pakistan.
