Lane Kiffin wasn’t allowed to coach Ole Miss in the College Football Playoff after ditching the team for LSU, but he was certainly tuned in to his old team.

One reason may have been that he hoped to earn bonuses for every Rebels playoff victory this year, something his new school, LSU, honors.

Regardless, the Rebels’ first-ever playoff series ended Thursday in a heartbreaker with a 31-27 loss to No. 10 Miami.

There’s no love lost for Kiffin with Rebels fans, or even their players, but Kiffin seems to still have a soft spot for the football program.

“Amazing effort and courage @OleMissFB (crying emoji). Best season in Ole Miss history!! Love you guys,” Kiffin posted on X after the game.

INDIANA COACH CURT CIGNETTI WANTED 1 THING AFTER HISTORIC VICTORY OVER OREGON

After Carson Beck rushed to score with 18 seconds left, Ole Miss put together one last miraculous effort as Trinidad Chambliss lofted a deep ball into the end zone. It fell incomplete, but there was speculation about whether defensive pass interference should have been called.

Kiffin was hoping for a flag.

“Pass interference 100!!!” Kiffin wrote.

The Rebels have found themselves in coaching limbo throughout the postseason, as many assistants follow Kiffin to Baton Rouge. However, although Kiffin was not cleared by Ole Miss to complete his practice, LSU allowed assistants, including offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr., to coach games and travel back and forth from Ole Miss to LSU.

Miami will face the top-ranked Indiana Hoosiers, who are looking to become the first college football team in the modern era to go 16-0. Indiana beat No. 5 Oregon, 56-22, on Friday.
