- Latest Switch 2 firmware update is live
- It brings useful changes, like disabling autoplay on eShop videos and much more.
- However, it appears to have removed compatibility for third-party Switch 2 docks.
The Nintendo Switch 2 just received another firmware update, and while it brings a number of decent features, it hasn’t been very popular with third-party dock owners.
Update 21.0.0 arrived a few days ago, on November 10. It brought a number of important quality-of-life changes, like the ability to prevent videos from autoplaying on Nintendo eShop listings (honestly one of the nastiest aspects of the Switch 2 eShop so far), and GameChat no longer puts your game to sleep while you’re still chatting.
However, the official patch notes don’t mention a particularly concerning change. As Kotaku reports, some Switch 2 players say their third-party docks (the device the Switch 2 handheld is inserted into for TV play) no longer work after the latest update.
“I can confirm that my second (third-party) dock in our living room also stopped working right after today’s update. A full power cycle didn’t fix it for me,” one user reported on Reddit.
“I launched a game, update alert, update, cable is down,” said another.
There are a number of reasons why Switch 2 players may want to purchase a third-party dock for their console. On the one hand, if they want the flexibility to play in multiple rooms, a secondary dock can save them time by simply allowing them to carry the handheld from one room to another without additional setup.
As Nintendo did not mention the issue in its official patch notes, it is difficult to confirm at this point whether the change was intentional or not.
