When the former MLB player Josh Rutledge became the target of criticism, his wife, the journalist of ESPN, Laura Rutledge, decided to take matters into his own hands.

Instead of going directly to opponents, Rutledge admitted to having adopted a less visible approach. She created a false social media profile to face the criticisms of her husband.

The negative commentary that Rutledge approached has probably surfaced between 2012 and 2017, when Josh competed in major leagues. He made his debut in MLB with the Colorado rockies and then played for the Boston Red Sox. He also had a passage with the Giants of San Francisco in 2018.

“When he was with the Angels, I did a false twitter – I admit that, ok? I know it was bad. I don’t have it since,” said Rutledge during an appearance on the “Merchant Media” podcast.

“But that was a unique thing, and the name was Billyhalo76 or something. And Billyha only tweeted positive things on Josh Rutledge, then the occasional tweet of Mike Trout, because I said to myself:” shoot, someone will understand that. “”

“So, if someone had said something negative about it, I would find them, then Billyha would be like” you are wrong “, and save him with statistics. I don’t think Josh knows it. If he looks at that, he’s going to be really angry with me.”

Rutledge spent time with the Triple-A of the Angels affiliate in 2014. He never appeared in a match with the Big League Club and was exchanged in the Red Sox in 2015.

Laura also recalled the personal turmoil she had experienced when her husband was hooked during a match.

“I really had a hard time,” said Laura about the criticism of her husband. “There were times when he played for the Red Sox … They had at the third base, and he had not played the third goal from the college. He barely played in the third goal. And he is in the hot corner and they are in Fenway, he has some mistakes in a game and people blow him and I said to myself”

Laura will return to ESPN’s “Monday evening football” broadcasts this season. It also hosts studio programs focused on NFL and university football for the network. The Chicago Bears welcome the Vikings of Minnesota on September 8, during the first match on Monday evening of the 2025 season.

Super Bowl title champion Philadelphia Eagles will welcome Dallas Cowboys Thursday evening to open the regular season list of this year.
