Lahore:
A lawyer convention held in Lahore demanded on Saturday the immediate release of the former Prime Minister Imran Khan and political workers when he asked that all national questions be resolved by dialogue, while avoiding the use of force.
A declaration published after the agreement organized by the Bar of the High Court of Lahore and the Convention of Lawyers of Pakistan de Lahore also demanded that all political workers “who were subjected to forced disappearances outside the constitutional and legal framework” are immediately released.
The Convention also strongly condemned recent amendments to Pakistan Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), declaring that these changes violate fundamental rights – freedom of expression and press.
“Lawyers also express solidarity with journalists and media workers across Pakistan who have trouble for freedom of expression,” added the declaration.
The Convention also defended the legitimate claim of Pakistan under the Water Treaty (IWT), which India unilaterally suspended after a militant attack in cashmere on April 22.
“The declaration strongly condemns the attack on India against Pakistan’s sovereignty. The rapid response of the Pakistani armed forces, in particular Pakistan Air Force, is very popular,” he added.
Addressing the Convention, the main lawyer Salman Akram Raja declared earlier that the lawyers would bring the great responsibility to tell the people that their vote had been stolen during the February 2024 elections.
“A system built on lies has been imposed on us. The 26th constitutional amendment is part of this lie. After having rigged the elections, there was an attempt to control our courts,” he said.
Raja, which belongs to Imran Khan’s PTI, said those who have faked the elections cannot tolerate democracy in this country. He said that for 78 years, democracy has been attacked several times.
