LDI Debt Debt Heads for Legal Review

Islamabad:

A subcommittee of the Na Standing Committee on Information Technologies met Thursday to examine the current question of exceptional contributions due by long-distance and international companies (LDI) to PTAs.

The panel decided to request a legal opinion from the ministry of Law concerning the issue of recovery.

During the meeting, the president of the PTA declared that the authority was not authorized to authorize payments based on the versions for the resumption of contributions from the LDI operators. “The PTA does not have the power to restructure or postpone payment of contributions in several payments,” he said.

The president of the PTA added that several cycles of meetings took place with defective LDI companies, but their position on the reimbursement of contributions continues to postpone.

“After hearing their opinions, we issued letters to the companies and a clear decision was communicated; the contributions in circulation must be paid in full, including late payment costs,” he noted.

The representatives of the LDI said that they had offered the PTA to pay the main amount in payments and expressed their provision to issue post-dated checks.

The PTA insisted on the fact that all contributions, including delay costs, must be placed in a sequestration account.

The representatives of the LDI argued that there was a lack of clarity in government policy concerning the renewal of their licenses.

The IT secretary observed that the question of contributions with LDI companies was not “simple”, noting that each company had a different position. “Whatever the decision that the government will make a precedent for the resumption of contributions in other sectors,” he noted.

The president of the PTA revealed that all the LDI companies had not agreed to pay the main amount.
