Local government employees announced a protest against non-payment of salaries.

The Peshawar Metropolitan Government is struggling to achieve financial stability, so its employees have not received their salaries for the month of December despite the passage of 15 days.

After two weeks of waiting, the employees threatened to demonstrate and go on strike for non-payment of their salaries and contributions. Official sources told The Express PK Press Club that the financial situation of the city metropolitan government had further deteriorated, making payment of salaries very difficult.

The situation is dire for Peshawar local government employees as they are facing severe financial difficulties due to non-payment of salaries and pensions.

As a result, many employees are struggling to make ends meet and even pay their electricity and gas bills. Many complained that their electricity connections had been cut off due to non-payment. Worse still, local traders stopped supplying goods on credit, they said. Employees said the root cause of the crisis lay in poor policies of the provincial government, including the mayor’s office and local government officials, which led to serious financial difficulties.

Unfortunately, despite the seriousness of the situation, no serious attempt has been made to find a solution, and the Department of Local Government and the Minister of Local Government have failed to resolve the problem, leaving local government employees bear the weight of the situation.

United Municipal Workers Union President Malik Muhammad Naveed Awan expressed deep concern that LG employees across the province, and not just in the Peshawar Metropolitan Government, were receiving their salaries only after organized protest strikes every month, thus making this a recurring problem. a major concern for the provincial government.
