Lahore / Islamabad:
The High Court of Lahore asked for answers to the PTA and the Punjab government on the petitions filed by the PUJ and others contesting the 2025 law on the prevention of electronic crimes (amendment).
During the procedure, judge Farooq Haider expressed his dissatisfaction with the non-submission of the responses by the Punjab and the PTA government. However, the federal government had already submitted its response.
PTA lawyer asked for more time to apply. Hanging the request, judge Haider warned that if the PTA does not subject its response by the next hearing, legal action will be taken.
Meanwhile, the High Court of Islamabad (IHC) issued opinions to the respondents on another identical petition against the 2025 law on the prevention of the modification of electronic crimes (PECA 2025). The court also summoned the Pakistan Attorney General to obtain aid in the case at the next hearing.
Judge Inaam AMEEN Minhas of the IHC heard the petition against the PECA amendment law filed by lawyer Adil Aziz Qazi. The court noted that there were other similar petitions pending before the court.
The court issued opinions to the parties and adjourned the hearing until April 17. The petitioner appointed the ministries of information, law and justice and others as intimated in the case. It can be mentioned that the identical petitions of the PFUJ, the Islamabad High Court Journalists Association and others against the PECA amendment Act are also heard at the High Court.
