Lil Durk is accused of involvement in a murder-for-hire plot and has been in solitary confinement for more than four months without facing trial.
The Chicago-based rapper, real name Durk Banks, was arrested after being found in possession of an unauthorized Apple Watch, but his lawyers say he has been under strict conditions for 131 days without court proceedings.
The legal team filed a motion for a status hearing to present its case of allegedly cruel and unjust punishment against Durk.
The singer’s attorney, Christy O’Connor, noted that Durk was confined to a small space with only a bed, toilet and sink, without access to in-person visits or interaction with the prison commissioner.
While initially, she said, solitary confinement was believed to be due to Durk’s celebrity status, it is now cited as an investigative measure in the murder-for-hire case.
This case would have called into question the justice system as Durk continues to live in prison without any progress in his case. The trial, which was scheduled for January 20, was postponed until May 4, painting an even bleaker picture.
