LONDON: London Mayor Sadiq Khan has expressed his warm feelings towards the iconic Basant festival in Lahore, saying he is happy to see the images of the celebrations and the joy they have brought to people across Pakistan.

Speaking in London for PK Press Club NewsThe Mayor of London said he had watched the media coverage of Basant and was struck by the visible happiness of the participants.

“I saw Lahore Basant on PK Press Club Newswhere people are very happy during Basant. I pray that Basant is always celebrated safely. It is a good thing that people are flying kites again in Lahore,” he said.

Basant, traditionally associated with the arrival of spring, has long been a defining cultural event in Lahore.

City skylines fill with families and friends flying colorful kites, while neighborhoods resonate with music and celebration. In recent years, however, the festival has faced restrictions due to safety concerns, including dangerous kite strings and rooftop accidents.

Khan stressed the importance of ensuring that public safety remains at the heart of any celebration.
