- Proton launched Lumo, a new AI assistant who is dedicated to your privacy
- There is a free version and a paid and paid version with premium features
- You can use Lumo in a web browser or via apps on iOS and Android
Proton, the Swiss company behind applications, including Proton Mail and Proton VPN, launched its first AI product: Lumo.
Lumo is an open source AI assistant who is designed by emphasizing privacy. You can use it for all the same things for which you would use Chatgpt, as summarize the documents, help with the code or rewriting emails, but you will be safe knowing that everything you share with Lumo is completely confidential and only readable on your device.
Proton guarantees that none of the information you give to Lumo will be used to form LLM and can be shared with third parties.
I recently wrote on the dangers of involuntarily putting sensitive information which is much more intimate than research or navigation on the history of AI companies, so the arrival of Lumo is timely.
The dangers of great technology
Announcing Lumo, Andy Yen, founder and CEO of Proton, said: “When we launched Proton Mail for the first time a decade ago, our vision was to build a better alternative to the ecosystems of large technologies for the benefit of the whole of society. Big Tech uses AI to overeat the collection of sensitive user data to accelerate the transition from the world to surveillance capitalism.
“For this reason, we believe that it is essential to provide an alternative that protects privacy and serves users as opposed to exploiting them. AI should not become the most powerful monitoring tool in the world, and our Lumo vision is AI that advances profits.”
So, if you are looking for a European alternative to large American and Chinese technological companies that dominate the AI market at the moment, then Lumo could be a good idea.
LUMO launches with key tools we expect in an AI nowadays, including web search, which is deactivated by default for confidentiality but which can be activated. It can download and analyze the files, but unlike other AI assistants, no recording is kept from documents you download.
Finally, Lumo has a proton diving integration to add cat files. The files will remain encrypted from start to finish.
You can use LUMO for free or switch to LUMO PLUS for $ 12.99 per month (about £ 9 / $ 20 at). LUMO PLUS offers you premium features, including unlimited cats, extended cat history, unlimited cat favorites and the possibility of downloading several files and large on LUMO.
You can register for Lumo now on Lumo.proton.me,, And there are applications for iOS and Android. As it is only enough to throw, we did not have the opportunity to compare Lumo to the most established chatbots like Chatgpt and Gemini, but you can be sure that we will test it early enough. Look at this space.
