Apple announced the latest version of MacOS at WWDC 2025, its annual developer conference.
According to Apple, the new version of MacOS Tahoe 26, the operating system used by MacBooks and Macs, arrives later this year, but before then, a first beta version was made available for developers to ensure that their applications work well with the new operating system. We show you how to download the MacOS Tahoe 26 Developer Beta if you want to give it an early try.
After that, Apple will launch a public beta version which allows anyone with a compatible mac to test the operating system – although you should only do it with understanding that it is a first version of the software and could lack functionalities and could include bugs (after all, the reason for the publication of a beta version is for people to help test the software and highlight the problems).

As usual, MacOS Tahoe 26 will be a free update for everyone with a compatible Mac or MacBook, so for most people, I recommend keeping tight for the official launch around October or November, because at this stage most, if not all, bugs and problems found in the beta version will have been resolved.
Until then, read the rest for all the information we know about MacOS Tahoe 26 so far, as well as the new features that have been passionate about the most.

A new look
Rumors were right – Apple revised the appearance of macOS (as with its other operating systems), with a unified design language, which means that macos, iPados and iOS will be similar.
Known as “liquid glass”, this part of the user interface does not only look good, it reacts according to the task you perform.
The platform, the sidebar and the toolbars of MacOS 26 Tahoe have been redesigned, the menu bar is now completely transparent. The idea behind it seems to be to ensure that the user interface mixes in the background, which gives importance to everything you work on the screen.
The application icons have also received a new look to adapt to the design of liquid glass, and they will also change depending on whether you use the theme of light or dark macOS.
Apple is also developing on MacOS 26 Tahoe’s personalization options, so it should be even easier to ensure that the operating system is suitable for your style.
A new numbering agreement
At WWDC, Apple announced the official name of the latest macos: Tahoe. Again, based on a benchmark in Apple’s original California.
More surprising (if you do not follow rumors), Apple also confirmed that there will be a new numbering scheme for MacOS and its other operating systems. Instead of number according to the version (the current version is MacOS 15), it will now be based on the year, there will therefore be no macOS 16, but MacOS 26, as well as iOS 26, iPados 26 and more.
This is a whole change, but it shows how serious Apple is to ensure that all of its operating systems have the impression of being part of the same ecosystem.
Spotlight under the … projector …
Spotlight has been a key macOS element for ages, allowing you to find and open applications that you have installed. At WWDC 2025, Apple has revealed that MacOS Tahoe 26 will present the “ biggest update of all time ”, with all the search results on applications, files, folders, messages and others are all listed and “ intelligently classified according to relevance for the user ”.
Advanced filter checks should help you reduce your results, and projectors will also be able to search for files stored on third -party cloud players, such as Google Drive or OneDrive.
You can also carry out actions directly from Spotlight – so that you can send an email, read a multimedia file and more without having to open the application first. These can also be used via keyboard shortcuts, and according to Apple, Spotlight will learn how you use your Mac and offer you personalized actions for the tasks you often do. The example that Apple gives quickly sends a message to someone you are talking about regularly.
Live translation
As you can expect, Apple has put many AI features in MacOS Tahoe 26, and perhaps the most interesting (and useful) live translation, which automatically translated messages according to the language of the person to whom you are talking about (and their answer will be translated for you).
During the facetime calls, live legends will also be displayed, and if you are old -fashioned and always use the telephone application, you can see a translation of what they are talking about – and all this is available so that the conversations remain private.
Make calls from the phone application directly from MacOS Tahoe 26
A current theme of the WWDC 2025 seems to make sure that the Apple devices ecosystem works better together, and with continuity, the application that allows you to access your iPhone via your Mac, you can now use the telephone application to answer your Mac phone calls, rather than having to remove your iPhone from your pocket.
The telephone application in MacOS 26 is designed to be instantly familiar to iPhone users, and you will be able to access recent calls, preferred contacts and your voice messages – as well as practical features such as calls and maintenance of assistance.
If someone from an unknown phone number sounds, calls for calls will answer the call and request information, allowing you to decide whether or not to answer.
If you are pending, Hold Assist will save your place online, so that you can work on your Mac until your turn arrives. Practical!
The Mac game improves with the Apple Games application
The game on a Mac is no longer the joke that it was thanks to a constant flow of AAA games to come on MacOS, and with MacOS Tahoe 26, it seems that the game could improve.
A new application, called Apple Games, will serve as a launcher for all your games, as well as to highlight new games that suit your tastes. It is not clear if this application will only display games that you have bought and installed on the Apple App Store, or if you can add other services, such as Steam. I hope it will be the latter.
A superposition of games, familiar to PC players using Windows 11 and Steam, is also included with the Apple Games application, and will allow you to quickly modify your settings and chat with friends without leaving the game.
A new low -power mode should also make games on a less demanding MacBook of the battery, so you should be able to play a little longer – although I hope it does not have too much impact on game performance.
