The representative of the state of Maine, Laurel Libby, requests an intervention of the American Supreme Court in his trial to cancel his censorship for a social media position which identified a minor trans athlete. Now the Democratic defendants have deposited their response to the High Court.
The accused, the president of the Maine Chamber, Ryan Fecteau, and the clerk of the house Robert Hunt, represented by the Attorney General of Maine, Aaron Frey, defended the decision to censor Libby for the February post in their response Thursday afternoon.
“Like the other censorships of the members of the Maine Chamber, the resolution of censorship forced the representative Libby to apologize for his conduct – no withdrawal of his opinions. The representative Libby firmly refused to comply with this modest punishment, which is designed to restore the integrity and reputation of the body,” said the answer.

“Her refusal puts her into violation of a centuries -old rule of Maine House, rule 401 (11), that the representative Libby was previously agreed, as well as all his colleagues from the house, would govern the procedures of the Chamber. Rule 401 (11) provides that a member found by the body is in violation of his rules not to participate in floor debates or to vote before the full chamber until they have satisfied,”
When the Democratic majority of the Maine House of Representatives voted to censor Libby on February 25, he initially proposed to restore his voting and speech rights if she apologized for the position. But Libby told them that she would not apologize.
Libby previously told PK Press Club Digital that Fecteau called it the day after the publication of social media, which identified a trans athlete who won a pole jump competition for girls on February 18.
“He found him reprehensible and asked me to withdraw him. At the same time, I asked him if he would support the girls of Maine and the support policy that stopped discrimination against the young women of Maine in sport, and he refused to respond,” said Libby.
“The main criticism of the Democrats is that it was an image of a minor.”
Libby added that no one in the family or high school of the Trans athlete had set out to him about the post. She also argued that the athlete was already publicized in other media. Portland Press Herald has published a summary of the event, mentioning the athlete.
