Man of tomorrow is the next DC Universe project (DCU) which will be led by the co-chief of DC Studios James Gunn. A suite in Gunn Superman Film, but not a direct suite in itself, it should currently arrive on July 9, 2027.
Its theatrical launch is still in a few years, but it is now as good as anything to discover everything we know Superman 2. Fortunately for you, this guide contains the latest information – the more strange or two rumor – on its potential cast, its plot, and more.

Release date of the man of tomorrow

As I mentioned above, Man of tomorrow is ready to fly in theaters July 9, 2027. This means that its possible exit will mark two years since this year Superman Flick took off.
This does not give Gunn and the company much time to ensure that the new DCU film respects its release date. Realisticly, the main photograph will have to start in early 2026 to ensure that its launch is not delayed.
Fortunately, Gunn has already finished work on the first scenario (according to his Threads account) and now refines the script. In the meantime, the important team of the film should be able to start the pre-production work so that the cameras can start driving as soon as possible.

Man of tomorrowThe official distribution has not yet been announced. However, there are three actors of Superman Who, depending on their activity on social networks around the announcement of the suite, I expected to see:
- David Corenswet as Clark Kent / Kal-El / Superman
- Nicholas Hoult like Lex Luthor
- Isabela Merced like Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl
Like Gunn, Corenswet and Hoult went to social networks on September 3 to reveal the DCU Chapter One’s Name and launch date. With Sups and Luthor occupying the front of the stage in the illustrations created by various DC comic artists to help the revelation (see the Instagram images above and below for confirmation), it is inevitable that these two actors are involved.
Regarding Merced, she shared Gunn’s post on her Instagram history (thanks to Reddit for screenshot) next to the legend “See You Sooon [sic]”. This strongly implies that it will also be part of the distribution.
If Merced Hawkgirl will introduce himself, it is very likely that his colleagues members of the Gang de Justice – Guy Gardner / Green Lantern by Nathan Fillion and Michael by Edi Gathegi / MR. GENIFIC – will do it too. Maxwell Lord of Sean Gunn, aka the founder and financial gang of justice, could also appear later.
There are necessarily more familiar faces in Man of tomorrow. Lois Lane by Rachel Brosnahan, Jimmy Olsen by Skyler Gisondo and other Daily Planet employees should come back. Meanwhile, Kara-Zor El / Supergirl of Milly Alcock, which is also the cousin of Superman, could be part of the procedures. She will play in her own autonomous film, which lands in theaters next June – learn more about it in my dedicated Supergirl Guide – But don’t be surprised if she and her faithful canine Kryptonian Krypto have a role to play Superman 2.

Finally, a newcomer on the big screen could be Aaron Pierre, who should represent the green lantern John Stewart in the next DCU television show LanternsAn original HBO Max which will arrive at the beginning of 2026.
Pierre responded to Gunn’s Instagram publication on the announcement of the film, Gunn later responding to Pierre’s comment (see the screen of their exchange above). Does this suggest that Pierre’s Stewart will be Superman 2? Do not reduce it.
Speculation of the history of the man of tomorrow

Do not shock anyone, Man of tomorrow Does not yet have an official memory. There are however certain things that we can read in its probable story – starting with the way in which Superman finished.
In the last act of this film, Lex Luthor was defeated by Clark Kent (with a little help from Krypto) and invaded the prison of Belle Rend to answer his crimes. The main accusations against him are his secret operations which include the manufacture of an evil clone of Kal-El, creating a pocket universe to imprison his detractors, then using said alternative dimension to open a multi-life rift that could have destroyed the whole planet. So, you know, a typical day of the life of the greatest archnemis of Sups.
This is not the last that we saw of Luthor. As the trio of Instagram messages suggests in this article, we could see Luthor build or acquire his Warsuit / Armor Power / Away that you want to call it. Indeed, we could also see him form a difficult alliance with Superman to tackle a common enemy – they were several times in comics – before, in the real Luthor style, betraying the steel man. It is not the only hypothesis of a major fan that circulated online after the announcement of the next Superman Saga film.
On the Superman Subdreddit, a theorist proposed that Hoult’s Luthor being the protagonist of this film or, at the very least, sharing co-head tasks with the emblematic Kryptonian of Corenswet. The nickname “the man of tomorrow” is generally associated with Superman, but Luthor said these words in the comics and even described himself as “the man of tomorrow”, that is how he considers himself (that is to say someone who aims to make the world a better and safer place in his eyes), in certain live adaptations. It is therefore plausible that this film can refer to it, rather than Supes.
In September 2025, there is not much other than we know about the next project on the big screen of Gunn.
However, it should be noted that Peacemaker Season 2, which is three weeks after its eight episodes race (at the time of the original publication of this article), will be “directly” set up Man of tomorrowHistory. It is according to Gunn, who said so much by responding to a fan on Instagram (thanks to Reddit for the catch).
