Margot Robbie responds to criticism of “Wurling Heights”

Margot Robbie speaks out on the wave of criticism surrounding her and the casting of Jacob Elordi. Wuthering Heights.

In a recent interview with British VogueTHE barbie The star acknowledged the uproar, particularly around her role as Catherine, a role initially described as that of a brunette teenager, explaining: “I understand. There’s nothing else to do at this point until people see the movie.”

Robbie also defended the casting of Elordi as Heathcliff, although fans noted that the character is described in the novel as “dark-skinned”.

She said: “I saw him play Heathcliff…And he is Heathcliff. I would say, just wait. Believe me, you’ll be happy.”

She continued: “He is incredible and I believe in him so much. I honestly think he is the Daniel Day-Lewis of our generation.”

Director Emerald Fennell shared her creative reasoning, saying that for her version of Cathy, “willful, nasty, recreational sadist, provocative”, she needed an actor with “inflated star power”.

Fennell said Robbie brought exactly that energy, calling it “big energy. That’s what Cathy needs.”

With the opening date of Wuthering Heights Scheduled for February 13, 2026, Robbie said she hopes viewers will wait to judge until they have seen the full performance.

Until then, she seems confident in the choice, casting and all.
