Martyred police during the shooting in Dera Ismail Khan

Two police officers were martyred in a firearm attack by terrorists in the Kulachi region, Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, police and the government announced on Wednesday.

Police say a terrorist was killed and two others were injured in retaliation fires. A Kalashnikov rifle with ammunition was recovered from the militant killed.

DSP Kulachi Inam Khan confirmed that the police were on their way to the city to buy household races when armed men opened fire on them. The police responded quickly and completed the area.

A joint research operation by the Department of Terrorism (CTD) and the district police are currently underway in the region.

Funeral prayers for martyred personnel were offered at the line police headquarters, which assisted higher police and CTD officers.

In a statement published by the Governor’s house, governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi firmly condemned the attack and paid tribute to the female officers. He exercised sincere condolences to bereaved families and prayed for the elevation of the rows of martyrs.

“The sacrifices of the police martyrs for peace and security will not be in vain,” said Governor Kundi. He added that the police had made immense sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and that the province shares the sorrow of the families of the victims.

In recent months, violence has intensified in certain parts of KP. Last month, a police operation in the Kot Kashmir region of Lakki Marwat left three alleged activists and a dead police officer.

In a separate incident in May, two police officers were killed and one injured when armed attackers attacked a check position in Bannu, using explosives to break the door, according to the CTD.
