Eight activists were killed and a soldier was martyred in multiple intelligence operations (IBOS) carried out by security forces through Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the army media wing said on Monday.

According to inter-service public relations (ISPR), operations have targeted suspicious terrorist elements in northern Waziristan, southern Waziristan, Khyber and Bannu.

In the region of Mir Ali, in northern Waziristan, three activists were killed when the troops “actually engaged” their location. In a separate operation in southern Waziristan, two other activists were neutralized.

However, during the exchange of shots, Naik Mujahid Khan, 40, resident of Kohat, kissed martyrdom. The ISPR described it as a “courageous soil son” who “fought valiantly and paid for the ultimate sacrifice”.

Two additional commitments took place in the districts of Khyber and Bannu, where three other activists were killed. The security forces have also recovered weapons, ammunition and explosives from the sites. The ISPR said that activists were involved in attacks on security personnel and civilians.

“Disinfection operations are underway to eliminate all remaining terrorists in the region,” he said, adding: “Pakistan security forces are determined to eliminate the threat of terrorism, and these sacrifices of our brave soldiers are more resolved.”
