The Fantastic Four: First steps Director Matt Shakman reiterated that the film is an autonomous story that requires no duty from Marvel fans.

Addressing Techradar, Shakman says that the next film is not indebted to the same connective tissue as the other projects of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) are because it exists in a parallel dimension. It is for this reason, thinks Shakman, that the film Marvel Phase 6 can be appreciated by the devotees and the new arrivals of the MCU.
