LAHORE:

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Sunday asked the police and district administration to understand the sentiments of protesters in the current situation and treat them with dignity and respect.

She said in a social media post that arrangements were being made for an iftar for the protesters.

The chief minister said all Muslims were grieved and in tears, but maintaining peace and order in the country and cities was a collective responsibility.

It calls on all those concerned to respect their duty to guarantee public order.

“In this hour of mourning, we remain united,” she added.

Meanwhile, in her message on the occasion of World Civil Defense Day, the Chief Minister highlighted that revival and strengthening of the institution was the need of the hour.

Provincial Information Minister Azma Bukhari called the attack on Iran and the martyrdom of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei “deeply tragic”, saying Pakistan had extended diplomatic and moral support to Tehran and condemned the aggression at the United Nations.

She urged religious parties and citizens to remain peaceful, warning that violent protests or taking the law into their own hands would serve hostile elements.

“If we turn our grief into unrest in our own country, it will benefit the enemy,” she said, calling on the public to exercise restraint, keep protests calm and avoid any damage to lives or property.
