Pakistan has made significant progress in mineral exploration, with the discovery of substantial antimony reserves in Balutchistan and the confirmation of gold, copper, nickel and cobalt deposits in the Gilgit-Baltistan.

According to Express News, the discovery of antimony in Balutchistan is part of a large commercial project undertaken by Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) and Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation (PMDC).

The two companies have formed a 50:50 joint venture, which should be officially announced in Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2025, scheduled from April 8 to 9.

In Gilgit-Baltistan, significant progress has been made to guarantee ten mineral blocks, where surveys have confirmed the presence of gold, copper, nickel and cobalt.

Meanwhile, the efforts to explore mineral resources in Chiniot, Punjab, are underway, with Ogdcl and the Mineral Department engaged in discussions to accelerate the process.

Pakistan also explores options to use Oman’s advanced installations to refine antimony. In addition, measures are taken to align mining education with global standards to support the progress of the sector.

To further develop the mineral sector, OGDCL strengthens its collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and universities. In addition, preparations are underway for remote and geological surveys to carry out a complete analysis of the newly discovered antimony reserves of the Baloutch.

Experts believe that these discoveries could play a crucial role in increasing the economy of Pakistan and the improvement of the mining industry in the country.
