- McAfee says that the scam detector reaches 99%precision, including deep tracking on video platforms
- Real -time scam alerts on WhatsApp, Gmail and more – but only if you pay McAfee
- The scam detector adds flash to the McAfee range, but free rivals could be more practical
McAfee began to bring together its new characteristic of scam detector in all its main antivirus plans.
The tool claims to identify scams before causing damage and offers a real-time analysis of the text, emails and video content.
This decision seems to be in response to the growing threat of AI -centered scams, but it raises questions about the fact that users have to pay this type of protection when several free and similar options exist.
Access to the detection of the scam
McAfee claims that its tool has 99% precision for textual threats and claims to detect the deep flings of YouTube and Tiktok with 96% precision.
Built with mobile use in mind, it supports applications such as WhatsApp, Messenger, Gmail, etc., being able to automatically scan Android SMS and allows manual analyzes on iPhones.
Its settings allow users to adjust sensitivity and include check -in checks by downloading messages or screenshots.
“The reality is that the volume, speed and sophistication of scams by AI-Aid have become a drain on time, energy and finance of people,” said Craig Boundy, CEO of McAfee
“By including texts, emails and a detection of video scams in all Core Mcafee plans, we help to democratize the protection of the scam and allow people to take control of their digital life.”
However, in order to have access, you must pay a McAfee antivirus subscription plan, raising the question of whether the scam detector alone justifies the payment of a complete security suite – in particular with free free tools available.
Free alternatives
One of these free tools is Bitdefender’s Scamio, a chatbot available on Discord. This feature is not locked by the plan like McAfee; It is completely free and allows users to scan links, texts, screenshots and even QR codes for the detection of the scam.
The tool uses AI to interpret both context and language, but does not include the detection of video depths. However, it is accessible and effective for daily threats.
Google also deployed a scam -based scam detector, but only for Pixel phones and only in beta version. He analyzes audio from incoming calls and alerts users in real time if he identifies the typical scam language.
Like McAfee, Norton, another heavyweight in antivirus space, integrates its protection of the genius scam in its plans, although it focuses on the identification of the language of the scam rather than on malicious URLs.
Users must also subscribe to obtain full access to its cover between texts, calls, emails and websites.
The McAfee scam detector could improve the position of the company among the best antivirus suppliers, but its positioning as an exclusive functionality of the plan makes it less accessible than alternatives like Scamio.
