Daniil Medvedev suffered a crushing defeat by double bagel in 49 minutes against the Italian Matteo Berrettini at the Monte-Carlo Masters, Wednesday April 7, 2026.
Russian tennis star Medvedev, world number 10, failed to win a single match in his season-opening match on clay as Berrettini advanced to the third round.
After losing the first set 6-0, Medvedev lost control as his serve was broken for the fourth time in a row and trailed 2-0 in the second set.
A frustrated Medvedev began banging his racket against the back fence, before hitting it four times on the clay.
The Russian then threw the broken racket in the trash.
Berrettini then won four more games in a row to seal the match in 49 minutes and hand Medvedev the crushing defeat of his career.
Berrettini, a former Wimbledon finalist, became the first ATP player to win a match without losing a single match against a top 10 player in a decade.
For the unversed, this is the first time Medvedev has lost a tour-level match without winning a match, and he has now been beaten 10 times in his career.
