Team USA women’s football, Great Megan Rapinoe, maintains what she said in 2019.
“You cannot win championships without gays,” she told his wife, Sue Bird during their podcast “A Touch More”.
Rapinoe said something in the same effect during the title of the Team USA Women’s World Cup in 2019 after a quarter -final victory over France, the host country of this year tournament.

“Go gays!” Rapinoe said at the time, according to The Guardian. “You can’t win a gay -free championship in your team – it has never been done before. It’s science, right there!
“I am motivated by people who love me, who fight for the same things. I take more energy from that to try to prove anything wrong. It exhausts you. But for me, being gay and fabulous, during the month of pride during the World Cup, that’s good.”

It is the month of pride now, which caused Bird’s question to Rapinoe on what it means to play during.
“Our team was super gay in 2019,” said Rapinoe. “Many of us were released, many of our fans were gay, many other players were gay. First thing the easiest thing to make sure you have gay players from our team.”
In 2019, the United States team had five players publicly LGBTQ players. Ali Krieger and Ashlyn Harris, two of the stars of the team, were engaged at the time, while coach Jillian Ellis was also released.
That year, Outports also reported that around 40 lesbian and bisexual players participated in the Women’s World Cup against less than 20 in 2015.
Rapinoe helped the efforts of the United States team to win consecutive World Cups in 2019, removing the Netherlands, 2-0, where Rapinoe marked a penalty kick in the 61st minute to take the lead.

Rapinoe scored six goals and two assists in five games in this female world cup, while scoring two goals and placing two assists in the 2015 victory.
The United States team was unable to have three games in a row in 2023 because they were eliminated by Sweden in penalty kicks. Rapinoe said that the 2023 tournament would be her last World Cup, and even if she wanted it to end differently, she noted “so lucky and so grateful to play as long as me”.
Outside the field, Rapinoe was frank, including after the 2019 victory where she said: “I will not go to the White House F — ING”, while President Donald Trump was in his first mandate. She also told her American team to “think hard” to go to the White House before facing France in the quarterfinals, which prompted Trump to tweet “Megan should win before talking! Finish work! We don’t have …”
“Megan should never disrespect our country, the White House or our flag, especially since so many things have been done for it and the team. Be proud of the flag you wear. The United States is doing very well!” Trump added his tweets at the time.
Rapinoe also commented on a previous episode of his podcast with Bird after Trump beat the former vice-president Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, saying that she felt “outdated” that he would be back in office.

“I think I feel – not as long as I personally think we live in very progressive places, we are incredibly privileged in our place in the world and life and financially and all these things, but I think that fear extends to people in general who will be really affected,” Rapinoe told Bird. “I think of all my trans friends and people I know and trans children. I think of the potential of mass deportations if it will happen, and just like the general chaos that will be sown is really crushing.”
In 2023 appearances with Team USA in his career, Rapinoe scored 63 goals and collected 73 assists with his two World Cup titles. She also made 56 goals and 34 assists in her 13 -year -old professional league in WPS and NWSL.
