Prince Harry and Meghan Markle secretly donated to a country the Duke and Duchess hold dear after devastating news from there.
The royal couple made the donations after Hurricane Melissa finally left the Caribbean on Friday after battering communities for days, leaving a trail of devastation that killed around 50 people.
Melissa fell on Jamaica and Cuba with enormous force, and locals were assessing their losses and the long road ahead to recovery.
Jamaica’s Information Minister Dana Morris Dixon told a news briefing that authorities had “fairly credible” information of five additional potential deaths, but had not yet been able to confirm them.
Following this, Meghan and Harry released a statement through their Archewell Foundations and asked for donations from their fans and friends.
They said: “These communities need our support now. We have made a donation and we are asking you to give whatever support you can, big or small, because every little bit counts.”
The statement further said that Jamaica, a country close to the Duke and Duchess’s heart and last visited in 2024, was particularly hard hit.
“Usually vibrant towns and villages full of life have been torn apart. Entire neighborhoods remain underwater. More than three-quarters of the island is still without power and for many families the question is not just about rebuilding, but about surviving.”
