Meghan Markle’s wounds still haven’t healed despite her decision to say goodbye to royal life.
The Duchess of Sussex’s alleged ‘secret battle’ to steal the spotlight from the future queen continues as she leaves no stone unturned to achieve her goals.
The former actress struggles to match Princess Catherine’s magic. An insider confirmed that the rivalry between the two royal wives is still alive and well, given Meghan’s recent stunts.
Last week, the Duchess delivered her festive special Meghan, with love series just days before the Princess of Wales hits headlines for her star-studded Together at Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams says Meghan still feels a “rivalry” with Kate, dating back to their days as the Fab Four with Princes Harry and William.
“If we look at the timing of a lot of things the Sussexes have done, there’s often conflict with William and Kate,” Richard adds: “Recently, for example, there was Harry’s visit to Canada at the same time as William’s Earthshot trip.”
He continued: “Harry reportedly made an offer to share newspapers earlier this year to avoid clashes, but while the offer was accepted, nothing appears to have come of it.”
Even though Meghan’s festive special was probably filmed months ago, Robert says the poor timing of its release didn’t do him any favors.
“It’s a decidedly dysfunctional situation to hear Meghan on television talking about love and family while her father is reportedly fighting for his life in hospital,” he said.
Reacting to Meghan’s latest show, the commentator suspects the Duchess is withdrawing her lifestyle show altogether, adding: “Meghan is secretly struggling to emulate some of the magic that Kate is clearly creating, but it’s not working.”
He admired Kate’s Christmas concert during Meghan’s holiday special, saying: She [ Meghan] displays an almost relentless positivity, which actually becomes boring to watch. It seems like she’d like to be some sort of Californian Mary Poppins, practically perfect in every way, and so her show just doesn’t have the same level of substance as Kate’s singing concert.
Meghan’s special, as expected, landed in Netflix’s Top 10 TV shows in the UK within 24 hours of its broadcast, but critics were not impressed.
Reviews in British newspapers, mostly one or two stars, described it as “bizarre” and one reviewer said it was “pretty crazy and a bit sad”.
Meanwhile, some royal fans described another failed attempt to overshadow Kate’s events as Meghan changed her plans regarding her exit.
Some Meghan fans took to social media to show their support, with one writing about X that “lifted their spirits” and another claiming they loved the “lovely show”.
However, Richard suspects this is the last we’ll see of the series, and Meghan and Harry will have to bring something big to the table if they want to keep the contact alive.
“The problem is that in the position they are in with their downgraded Netflix deal, which is not an unusual position, they needed a big name,” Richard told the Mirror.
