Islamabad:
A confrontation between traders and the government intensified on Monday as the authorities arrested several traders against taxes on the Pakistani-Chinese border, the gilgit-bertan media said.
The merchants, which are part of the Pak-China Trades action committee, had announced the closure of the dry port of the Silk Road and blocked the Karakoram motorway in the districts of Hunza and Nagar. The demonstration, which started on Monday morning, had blocked hundreds of travelers, including tourists, in the region.
Merchants require the end of income collection and sales tax at the Sost Silk dry port.
